I get this every 6-12 months. Sometimes it's a one-time thing, others it comes and goes for days. It's not related to getting water in the ear because I ever since getting this, I wear earplugs in the shower.

Anyone know what could cause it - and how to stop the spinning sensation?

Also, wonder if it's a precursor to something else? I also have ringing in the ears all the time too.

Thanks in advance.

You should talk to your doctor about this. I had a similar problem and
my doctor explained that it could have two causes. An infection in the
inner ear could cause it or it could be something associated with aging
and be a more chronic problem.

It sounds suspiciously like Meniere's Disease (a disorder of the
endolymph in the inner ear). Do you also experience fullness in either
one or both ears? I would recommend seeing an ear, nose, and throat
specialist.

Thanks, Jennifer. What is the meaning of fullness in this context?
